Whois Privacy Protection, occasionally also referred to as WHOIS or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the real contact info of domain name registrants on WHOIS check web sites. Without this service, the personal name, home address and email account of any domain owner will be freely visible. Giving false details during the domain registration process or changing the genuine details subsequently will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain name registrant losing their domain ownership rights. The policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), demand that the WHOIS info must be correct and up to date all the time. The Whois Privacy Protection service was launched by registrars as a response to the increasing concerns about possible identity fraud. If the service is activated, the domain registrar’s contact information will be displayed instead of the client’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domains support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are certain country-code extensions that don’t.
